I really enjoyed this post Alan, and (being of a similar age) there was a lot I could relate to.

Bowel cancer screening - let me urge you to do this ASAP. I have had bowel cancer (before I even got to 50 - unusually young they told me) and I had passed up the chance for 2 basic tests the year before. oh with hindsight ...

BUT still my cancer was caught early on & was relatively simple to remove so I say to everyone, do it and do it soon.

I got the standard kit a few weeks ago when I turned 60, and I expect you can imagine my nerves as I did it and posted it to await results ... but they came back quickly (less than 2 weeks) and I'm ok (phew).

Like you, I'm the kind of person where my nerves/anxiety have always presented as upsets in the tummy/digestive system, but I told myself "the quicker they know if something is wrong, the quicker they can do something about it". I hope that helps you.

Thanks so much for your reply, Posy. The screening kit came through about 10 days later. I did the test and the results came back as ok. Well, something like, "No further tests are needed at this time." I was shaking when I opened the results envelope!

It's a small crossing within a supermarket site, so no traffic lights.
